Gravity Hostel

At 215b it was cheap, but still nowhere near cheap enough for how disgusting the place felt. The cafe downstairs was decent, and I hope they get cleaners to pay attention to the upstairs. The room was filthy, with rubbish all over the floor. There were no curtains, just overhead lights and only a couple of power outlets. The showers felt like somewhere I might step on a needle, with hair, tissues, and cigarette cartons on the floor. The bed was just a box spring and sheet, with no mattress, and nothing seemed clean. The roommates were awful too, probably at least partly because of the hostel's atmosphere. Worst hostel I've ever stayed in.

The host was great, really welcoming and ready to help. Being right in the city center also meant karaoke noise until midnight. The room, toilet, and shower all had a smell. It was okay for a night or two, but I wouldn't suggest staying longer.

It was affordable, with a comfortable bed and good AC, though the hostel is a newer part of the business and a one-man operation, so it isn't fancy. What made the place special was the owner, who was kind and welcoming and arranged my slow boat to Laos without any fuss. It felt more like a homestay than a dorm. On my last evening, I was the only guest, so I spent hours having a few beers and talking about life with him and his local friends. It was one of my best experiences in Thailand. It may not have many amenities, but there's a lot of warmth and human connection. I'll definitely return.

P'Gap, the manager, was warm and attentive, always around when we needed something. He helped arrange some great excursions at very competitive prices, which helped us get more out of the trip. The rooms were clean and comfortable for resting after a busy day, and the hostel is right in the heart of the city with good value for money. We had a really enjoyable stay, thanks to P'Gap and the team. I'd recommend it for affordable accommodation, a friendly feel, and thoughtful service.
