Imperial Golden Triangle Resort (SHA Extra plus)

The location is great, and for the price it's a good option as long as you don't expect too much. The room was comfortable, clean, and large, with a good-sized bed. As a 3-star place, it won't be the best at everything. If you're 6ft+, you may have trouble showering. The sockets are in strange places, the fittings are rather old, there's no hand soap, and the toilet paper is 1 ply. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy, and I had no problems with the staff. Breakfast was disappointing, with the same things each day. There was no bacon, just low-quality ham squares and processed sausages. I'm quite sensitive to egg quality, and the omelette and fried egg seemed really low grade to me. The Thai breakfast was better, but the two days I tried it, it was repeated, so it got boring after 1 day. I also agree with other reviews that the water systems are loud and disturbing, though the hotel wasn't very busy during my stay.

The breakfast was average but sufficient, and the staff were great and very helpful. We had a room on the 4th floor with a great view of the Mekong. It's a nice, clean hotel closest to the Golden Triangle park, though a bit dated. The lobby is nicely decorated and has lots of seating.

Leaving was a relief. I woke up short on sleep with back pain and a migraine, though I was glad to be heading out. The room view didn’t make up for the stay. We booked two connecting rooms, one for us and one for the kids, and both smelled of mould. The beds were small and uncomfortable, and the sheets felt damp. The bathrooms needed a better clean and didn’t even have soap. The whole place felt gloomy. We could hear every little thing from the rooms around and above us, including toilet flushes, toothbrushing, and footsteps. Terrible.

Getting around was the best part, everything this beautiful city offers is within walking distance. We were four adults, two couples, and stayed one night in October 2022. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the grounds and facilities were good.
