The Nouveau Chumphon Beach Resort & Golf

The pool was gorgeous, and we had it to ourselves, though there was a slight sewage smell. The bed was lovely and big, and the bath was nice too. The hotel could use some updating: the golf grounds weren't in use, and the gym was under-equipped. We stayed one night in December 2025 while travelling around Thailand. It was about a 50-minute drive from the airport and only 10 minutes from the pier and ferry, which worked well for the next day. There’s a 7-11 next door, and prices are really cheap compared with the other islands. The restaurant food was below average. Breakfast wasn't for me apart from the omelet, although my boyfriend and his friend enjoyed the wide choice.

The staff were the highlight of our short visit. They were warm and welcoming from arrival onward, and attentive whenever we asked for something. That made a real difference. Our room was spacious and very clean. The A/C worked well, the shower pressure was fantastic, and the bed and pillows were genuinely comfortable, so we had a restful night. The pools were inviting, too, and the open-air lobby and dining area gave the spacious grounds a relaxed tropical feel. The property does show its age. Several areas need repairs, routine maintenance, and a facelift. It didn't ruin our stay, but it takes away from the resort's potential. The golf course was temporarily closed while we were there, and that should be made clear before reservations, especially for guests booking for that amenity. We had a good one-night stay, but the maintenance and lack of notice about the golf course were disappointing.

I can't believe anyone gave this place four stars. For £70 a night, it’s outrageous. I wish there were an option for zero stars, and I wish I’d checked reviews before booking. This is honestly the dirtiest, most dated hotel I've stayed in. We changed rooms because the first had black mould all around the bath seal and no proper shower. There was dust everywhere, dead bugs on the TV, and hair on the floor. In the new room, thick mould covered the bathroom, with dust in the wall corners and more hair. The shower and sink also had limescale. Does the cleaner do anything beyond changing the sheets and towels? I’m glad it’s only one night. After seeing the room, I would have left if I were staying longer.

The setting is so relaxing, with lots of birds singing, especially in the morning. It doesn't feel too commercial, and there are nice beaches and several reasonably good restaurants nearby. I also liked the hotel's own restaurant, which was pretty good and reasonably priced. Stayed two nights.
