The gardens are a major draw at Horizon Village & Resort. Guests can explore the 115-acre Tweechol Botanical Garden for free, by bicycle, tram, or paddle boat. The landscaping is beautiful, and there are chances to feed the animals at the small zoo. It makes the resort feel like a peaceful nature retreat, especially for families hoping to get away from the busy city. There’s plenty to do on site, with four pools, some with water slides, a fitness center, spa, and several playgrounds. Children can also visit the petting zoo and mini city, or join activities such as movie nights. The location is fairly secluded, around 30-45 minutes from central Chiang Mai, so keep that in mind if you plan to visit town often. Rooms are generally spacious and clean, with Northern Thai Lanna touches. The villa-style rooms have a nice feel, though some standard rooms seem a little dated next to the higher-tier suites. Food is another strong point. The buffet breakfast at Mhuy Na has a broad mix of Asian and European dishes. Guests also value the fresh organic ingredients, including produce grown on site. Lan Dok Mai is a good choice for Thai specialties such as deep-fried freshwater fish and spicy young chili paste. Dining with views of the tropical gardens is pleasant, and service is often described as friendly and accommodating. This is a good fit if you want gardens and family activities, with the distance from downtown worth considering if city trips are part of the plan.

We had a great family stay during the children’s school break. The breakfast buffet and swimming pool were both great, and the rooms, facilities, gardens, and zoo all met our expectations. It was especially convenient to see the gardens from a golf cart or tram. Before heading to the zoo, get off at the entrance for a bit and buy some food. You can get a lot for a low price. It was very hot, but the children loved feeding the animals.

The resort is a decent value for a family getaway, and the rooms were very clean and well kept. I liked that each building has its own pool, and the breakfast had a great range of dishes. Service was the disappointing part. Staff often ignored guests and didn’t usually offer a greeting or smile. The overall service felt average and not very welcoming. The resort is some distance from the city center, which makes getting around challenging. There are playgrounds, though they seem small and inadequate for such a large property.

We had a lovely weekend here. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Chiang Mai, and the secluded setting makes it a nice break from big-city life. The botanical gardens are great for a morning or evening walk. Our clean room had everything we needed, and the staff were helpful and friendly. There was a wide range of breakfast options, though I couldn’t find hot black tea. For the price, it’s a great place to unwind.

My kids had a lot of fun, and biking around the garden was great. Still, I might not come back because of the slide safety issue. My child slipped on the stairs from near the top and could have been seriously hurt. The curved staircase seems unsuitable for a children’s water slide, and a fall could be easy. The platform at the top is very narrow too, so even a small misstep could cause a serious accident. We changed rooms once, and the quality difference between two rooms in the same Deluxe category was surprisingly large. The first one, in the villa building, smelled musty and was quite dark with very little natural light. The replacement, on the first floor of the second story building, had excellent sunlight and felt much brighter, almost like a one-level upgrade. It’s hard to believe both are sold as “Deluxe”; the first seems like it should have a different category. Charging the same rate when the room quality differs that much doesn’t feel fair. Getting a taxi was difficult, so I’d suggest using Grab or booking a ride in advance through Bolt. The hotel restaurant adds 7% tax and 10% service charge, despite having the feel of a local restaurant. Also, the botanical garden bikes don’t include a small size suitable for children under 5.
