Tanawit House Hotel

I spent four weeks here for work nearby. The staff were lovely and very helpful, and the location was convenient, about a ten-minute walk to the beach and Night Markets. But the room problems and extra charges made the stay feel awful. My first room was deplorable: dirty sheets, a dusty AC unit, and a bathtub that was very uncomfortable to shower in. The bath faucet wouldn’t stop dripping at night, and the noise kept me from sleeping. The second room was a little better, but I suspect there was mold in the AC units. I normally don’t get sick, but started getting sick after using the AC. There was also a foul smell every time I showered. The lobby looked shabby, with old, outdated furniture and fittings. I’ve traveled a lot and served in the army, and have stayed in some rough places, but this was particularly bad. They charged a 1000 baht cleaning fee for limited service and took a 3000 baht deposit for utilities. Toilet paper, towels, and soap weren’t provided, and we got only one key per room. I’ve heard a certain professional organization often uses this hotel, and I’m surprised they keep coming back despite past complaints. Transparency and accountability matter. The staff were lovely, but that didn’t make up for the room issues and extra costs. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The rooms were absolutely terrible. Mine had peeling walls, broken panels, missing handles, poor shower drainage, and a wardrobe door that came completely off when I opened it gently. After three weeks, I found out there was mold in the air-conditioning unit, which was making me sick. Staff cleaned it after I told them, but then it stopped cooling, so I had to move rooms because the AC was broken. They charged 1000 baht in cleaning fees for just two room cleans and took a 3000 baht deposit for water, electricity, and aircon fees. Rooms had no toilet paper, towels, or soap, and no regular cleaning. There was only one key per room.

The room’s water supply was disgusting, and the room hadn’t been cleaned. There was some mystery sauce sprayed up the walls. No kettle or toaster either, just the bare minimum for a long-stay hotel. I’ll never stay here again.

Good location, with a car park and a big lobby. I did hear the train quite often, though.
