Plakan Resort

The river makes for a lovely setting, and the staff were warm and welcoming. A few had limited English, but they did their best. Our room was huge, the bed was very comfortable, and there were plenty of amenities. We liked the pool, though it felt a bit cold this time of year. We had the fried fish with Thai herbs twice and recommend it. The restaurant seems popular on its own, and breakfast was simple but tasty, especially the congee. The fitness room isn’t worth bothering with. The resort is outside central Kanchanaburi, so getting around without a car could be a hassle, but driving in to see the sights was easy for us.

Dinner at Plakan Log Home restaurant comes with a river view, and the local food is worth trying. Plakan Resort is a boutique place along the river in Kanchanaburi, less than five minutes from the city center by car. The price is reasonable and includes breakfast. I’d recommend it for a family trip or a staycation.

I made a genuine mistake and booked two rooms when I only needed one. I contacted the property straight away, but they wouldn’t refund or adjust the extra booking. I was really disappointed by how inflexible the customer service was. Double-check your reservation, since the hotel didn’t seem understanding about an honest error.

It’s a small resort, probably best suited to couples. I arrived around dusk, so I’ll take a look around at dawn for a better view of this little place. The modern property is clean, and there’s a foyer museum shop with retro items that’s worth checking out. Its restaurant is built like a wooden Swiss chalet and serves traditional Thai food.
