Mookies Bungalow

We loved the location. Most hotels are on the other side of the island, and taking a tuk-tuk or motorbike to the beach every day would get old fast. Charlie Beach is THE place to hang out, and being so close made us feel like VIPs. We rented kayaks and snorkelling gear at short notice, and it all went smoothly. The fan bungalow was basic but very clean and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and organised, and Ms. Wan is a Superwoman. Five stars rarely mean much these days, but Mookies really earns them. Breakfast was alright. Some reviews call it a buffet, but it was a set menu with limited choice and portions that varied. After a few days, most people seemed to order custom meals, and staff didn’t seem to mind when people asked for extra to make sure there was enough. The restaurant was okay, though there are definitely better places to eat on Koh Mook. My one request would be a little minimarket for basic items, since it’s a bit of a walk.

The place and the people who work here have a calming, peaceful feel. Wan is an incredible host, warm and unflappable no matter what comes up. It was nice having breakfast and a restaurant nearby. The biggest beach is within walking distance, though I’d suggest taking a kayak past emerald cave to explore Sabai and get away from more people. You can rent a kayak or book a ferry here, at the same prices as elsewhere. This place has my utmost respect. I’d return.

The restaurant served lovely food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the staff were very friendly. The bungalow complex is lovely and just five minutes from the amazing beach. The bed was comfy and the shower had very good pressure. My only small complaint was the wall behind our bed, which looked like bare OSB board, maybe from some earlier damage. Even a little paint would help 👍🏻 I’d definitely come back and recommend it. I loved seeing a wild toucan in the tree outside on most mornings.

When we went to the beach for sunset, one of the lovely women followed us with a torch so we could get home safely. That was incredibly thoughtful. We arrived during Loi Krathong, a public holiday, and they gave us a Krathong to celebrate with the local people. Such a special gesture. The whole team was attentive, helpful, and friendly, with a real eye for detail. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the accommodation had everything we could wish for.
