Splendid Sea View Resort Hotel

The rooftop view was the only decent thing here. The location was mediocre too, with everything about 30min away. The beds were hard, the service poor, and cleanliness wasn't even up to 3-star standards. There were no breakfast options, just cheap filter coffee with no foam and no cookies or snacks. Furnishings were cheap plastic. We got no extra blankets or pillows, and service was delayed. The receptionist was unprofessional, though he tried his best. The elevator starts beeping if more than 4 people are in it. Two days in, our cards stopped working, and they gave us a master key, saying the cards needed battery. The single bathroom was inconvenient, despite being labelled 'ensuite' on booking.com. Who gave this property 4 stars? Who's writing all these reviews?

It's a bit high up and far to get to, but the place was fresh, clean, and healthy, with lovely smells and food. There were a few small flaws, like on the gym wall, but I'd recommend it, especially if you have an international bike license.

The apartments have a nice modern layout, good air conditioning in almost all rooms, and an excellent sea view. We had two bedrooms, and both the main central pool by the bar and the small private pool above our apartment were nice, with great views of Kata town and bay. The mattresses were very hard and rather uncomfortable, though I got used to them. The staff were always helpful and acted on our feedback as quickly as they could, sometimes even in the middle of the night. One example was the loud pool pump above our apartment. My sincere appreciation to all the staff. The location on the hill has pros and cons. It suits you if you're after peace, nature, and views, but it's too far to walk to all the town's action. It's also not the nicest part of town. Unfortunately, the hygiene and cleanliness need a lot of improvement. One room had a mattress with yellow urine stains. In both rooms, the duvets had to be replaced because of similar yellow stains and brown blood stains. That's absolutely unacceptable, though they did replace them immediately after we complained. The grounds on both the seaside and “jungle” sides were also quite dirty, with lots of rubbish. Unfortunately we see this quite a lot in Thailand, where environmental standards are not the same as in the EU. We were disappointed and couldn't understand the high rating on Booking.com. We should've paid more attention to the lower review ratings on google.com.

This is a great choice if you have your own transport. It's quiet in the evenings, and by car or bike it's 5-7 minutes to the sea and the parties in the Karon, Kata area. The place isn't suitable if you don't have transport or want to walk to evening parties. You can't walk to the sea because it's hot and there's no pedestrian zone, and there aren't any cafes nearby. Our deluxe room with a mountain view was great for two, with plenty of space and even a small kitchen that we didn't use. It was cleaned daily and had all the bathroom accessories. The balcony view was exactly like the photo on the site, and the photos there matched reality. The roof view from the restaurant and pool was perfect. The breakfasts were wonderful for us: eggs cooked how you like, salad, sausages, bacon, toast, and always fruit. The guy cooked right in front of us. You could swap sausages for a pancake, and everything was fresh and delicious. The staff were so helpful and pleasant. Special thanks to the guy at the breakfast restaurant and the guys at reception. If we make it back next year, we'll definitely take the opportunity.
