Khanom Sunrise Beach Hotel

The rooms were good, though the toilet could have been cleaner. We paid 1,800 baht, while the usual online rate appeared to be 3,000 baht. The beach is right in front of the resort, but cleanliness there was only satisfactory. There are two pools, one for children and one by the beach for adults, and breakfast is included. We didn’t enjoy the hotel restaurant’s food and would look elsewhere for meals.

Room 404 was clean and fresh, with a balcony and ocean view. The bed looked king sized, but was actually two slightly undersized doubles pushed together; it was comfortable, though the pillows were thin and lumpy. The shower and sink area was less appealing: soap and shampoo were provided and it was generally clean, but the taps were covered in limescale and rust. A crack ran through the tiles from floor to ceiling, which looked like it could point to a serious structural problem. The lobby was bright and clean, opening from the car park through to a patio overlooking the beach. Outside, the three star hotel looked like it needed maintenance, with peeling paint and large plastic sheets covering windows from ground to roof level. The car park itself was spacious but just compacted dirt scattered with pebbles. A heavy evening storm flooded the covered patio between reception and the beach. Room service took over an hour and a half, and I later learned that half the food order was not what my wife had asked for. The stairs were also hard to use: tables and chairs blocked some landings in the evening, and cleaning trolleys blocked others in the morning. That would be a hazard during a fire. I prefer the stairs for exercise and because I don't like lifts, especially during covid, so this was disappointing.

The facilities were a strong point: the rooms had standard amenities, and the restaurant, pools, and conference room were well equipped. The beach is long enough to find your own spot, but the bungalows sit quite close together, so noise carries when another room has a big party. The resort is at the south end of Khanom beach, on Highway 4014, about 2 km from Hua Thanon junction and easy to reach by private car. The restaurant and pools face the beach, while all the rooms are set farther back. Get up early if you want to catch sunrise over Khanom beach. The room was clean, though the blanket had dirty stains, and the bathroom and toilet need better maintenance. At night the garden felt quite dark under the trees, with too few lamps, and there were no security guards. The friendly staff seemed rather inactive and not very professional, so we had to contact them when we needed help. Breakfast was included but simple, with limited choice, and might not be enough for a large tour group. Wheelchair access is difficult, with steep steps to every room and the beach, and there are no accessible toilets or parking.

A nice hotel by the beach, though the daily party should wrap up by 23:00 so it doesn't disturb guests.
