Margarita Beach

I only stayed one night, but I’d come back for a longer break. The bungalow was nice, and the bar had that feel from the movie Cocktail. I had a Leo and a great pizza there. The menu covers Thai and Western food, and locals seem to use the bar as a meeting place. It’s right on a quiet beach, though it was windy while I was there. Ella the manager was lovely, answered all my questions, and helped me get settled.

The Chicken Caesar Wraps tasted okay, but there was far too little food for the price. My boyfriend and I left hungry and disappointed. They were tiny and had hardly any chicken, while meals in Thailand are often much more generous for a fraction of the cost. We’re happy to pay more when the quality, amount, and experience justify it, but these didn’t. It felt like a tourist price, and the wraps even looked bigger in the photo. Fries came with them, though the menu hadn’t mentioned fries and I didn’t want any. When the food arrived, I asked, half joking and half shocked, “Is this a joke?” The staff member looked at me and walked away. What a pity, we expected more. I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here at these prices.

The staff will gladly sort out tours and taxis, and they have good connections with local providers who know the area well. It’s also a lovely place to slow down: I could have spent all day on the sun bed, and the nearby beach is great for swimming and walks. We felt close to nature and a little away from the main tourist track, so it makes a worthwhile stop on the way to the Gulf islands, though the area is worth seeing in its own right. I’d love to return. The shacks are simple, with decent bathrooms and a real beach hut feel. The restaurant food and bar service were great. There were a couple of friendly dogs and a cat around, and it was lovely seeing the staff laugh and enjoy working together. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with personal, engaged service. The spot is unbelievably good, right on the beach.

The food was incredibly delicious, and the kitchen deserves a big compliment. I also really appreciated how kind and discreet the staff were, especially as an introverted person. It’s a peaceful place where you can completely switch off. The dogs are adorable, and if you love dogs, they can feel a bit like emotional support. Honestly, the hotel was everything I could have hoped for. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to relax and let their soul unwind.
