Hotel La Villa Khon Kaen

Breakfast was very nice, and the coffee was decent. The staff were helpful, and when the door was difficult to open, they offered us another room, which was good of them. But the TV volume didn't work and a slat was broken on the outdoor bench. For the price, the room standard felt a bit expensive, and some general maintenance seemed overdue.

The breakfast was okay, especially the egg pan, and there are no sunbeds by the lovely little pool, though plenty of other seats. It's a very nice Thai-style hotel with a huge, clean, comfortable room. It smelled a little musty at first.

The room smelled of urine, and the bathroom floor was uneven with a large crack in the shower area. The door lock didn't work, and it felt as if the room were separating from the building. Next door, workers replaced furniture with power tools for several hours during our stay. Breakfast wasn't great either. I wouldn't recommend this place.

We added another night because we enjoyed the stay, then moved to a poolside room. It cost only a few extra BHT's and had even more space. The hotel is close to Krungthan lake, handy if you like running, cycling, or walking. Our first room was huge and very clean, with a terrace and a really comfortable bed and quality linen. The bedside lights didn't work, though, and there wasn't enough terrace space for a table and two chairs. Next time I'd choose a downstairs room where there's space to sit and eat outside. Breakfast looked limited at first, but what was on offer was fresh and fantastic. The two women working there were lovely. One noticed I was eating my Vietnamese stuffed bread cold and warmed another one for me in the oven. I also enjoyed the egg pan, and my partner's omelette was delicious, served with plenty of fresh salad. There's a small pool for cooling off. Its green tiles make it look dirty and unwelcoming, but it isn't.
