Koh Munnork Private Island

The food turned out to be a real surprise. I’d heard it wasn’t very good, but I loved everything I ordered, especially the fresh seafood we pre-ordered. The other dishes were good too. Staff were nice, though I felt they could use a bit more training. We brought our dog, and she had a great time. The water was crystal clear, the room cozy, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax. It was hot and humid, but a swim in the ocean quickly sorted that out. We had a great stay and would definitely come back! 😍

The island was the real highlight. Even with all 22 bungalows occupied, it still felt deserted, with pristine beaches, clear water, beautiful sunsets, and great snorkeling just 30 seconds offshore. A paradise like this would easily cost $1000 in Phuket. We spent five nights, which felt just right. The jungle setting offered a daily 30 minute hike to hidden inlets and local wildlife. Our room was clean and spacious, the pool was clean with an amazing view, and the food and drinks were excellent. My wife has discerning taste and loved the papaya salad. Service was great and they handled every request, like no sauce on a sandwich, no chilli peppers in wings, and no sugar in drinks. They also made sure an English speaking waiter supervised the order. It’s a peaceful, beautiful island with a stunning beach, a private feel, and a chance to disconnect in nature. It’s pet-friendly too. The resort is old but kept in good shape and comfortable. The setup is very basic: no TV, fridge, or Wi-Fi in the rooms, and the power goes off every day from 9 AM to 1 PM. If you want luxury or modern amenities, it may not suit you. For a quiet island escape with simple comforts and natural beauty, it’s ideal.

The island stayed on my mind long after I left. At night it was quiet except for the waves and the occasional peacock call. The birds would suddenly appear and stroll by as if I were visiting their home. Sunset light on the water, and that feeling of being somewhere untouched just a few hours from one of Asia’s busiest cities, are things the island gives you. Operational issues can’t take that away. Koh Munnork is a small private island off Rayong’s coast. I’ve visited Thailand regularly for the past few years and thought I knew what to expect, but this place surprised me. There are no roads or crowds, only waves and more than thirty peacocks wandering freely. It feels calm as soon as you arrive, with a slow pace and quiet atmosphere. If you like peaceful walks, reading, watching nature, and doing very little, it delivers. Nature is the island’s strongest point. The hiking trail takes less than an hour, has shady views, and several spots overlooking the sea. Snorkeling equipment is free, and the peacocks add character without seeming staged. The beachview bungalow suited the setting and was spacious, with two bathrooms. Housekeeping was consistent, the toiletries were pleasant, and the staff stayed kind even though they looked stretched thin. There are some details that need work. The air conditioner was loud enough to interrupt sleep, there were no bedside reading lights, and we had no outdoor water source near the rooms to rinse off sand before going inside. Food was functional but forgettable, about 6.5 out of 10. Dishes arrived without names or presentation, and tables weren’t cleared before dessert. Little things, but they add up. Getting information before arrival could be easier too. We called the pier office twice and got no answer. When someone finally picked up, the information was confused. That’s many visitors’ first impression, and it sets the tone. The island seems understaffed. You can see it in the long hours and the small lapses when the same few people are doing everything. Island jobs are harder to sell than mainland ones, and the best island properties make up for that with better pay and rest days. It makes a difference. The resort presents itself as eco-conscious, and a few changes could back that up: reusable bottles instead of daily plastic, an option to reuse towels, and a more visible beach cleanup program. My friend and I picked up four large bags of rubbish in two hours. Making that a regular guest activity could become a real selling point. I’ve stayed in more polished places, but few made me feel the way Koh Munnork did. There’s something honest and unforced about it. It asks very little and gives you real stillness, something hard to find anywhere and almost impossible so close to Bangkok. The island itself is the product, and its foundations are excellent. What it needs is refinement, fair investment in its people, and attention to the little details. I’m sharing all this because I care about the place and hope it thrives. I’m already planning another visit and hope to see some of these changes then.
