Koh Chang Longstay Resort

The sunsets were great, and the resort is in a central spot on the island’s west side. The accommodations were comfortable, too.

It’s a nice resort, but the supermarket is far away. Get what you need ahead of time, or plan to go out for a meal.

The rooms were very clean, towels included, and the price gives the place some value. The beach is probably its best feature, and the location is good. But we stayed for over a week and I wouldn’t suggest it if you want peace and quiet. For most of our visit, workers were cutting the grass by the house and beach with heavy equipment from about 9:40 to 4. After a few days, the noise became unbearable. At night there were loud disco parties nearby, with bass that made the cozy houses tremble. The grass was dry and didn’t seem cared for, though the place has potential. The food was good, but sometimes the kitchen was out of ingredients, so we waited over an hour for a simple dish, despite there being only about five items on the menu. Staff spoke very little English, just a few words, but they were kind and helpful if you speak Thai. The road into the compound is rough at one point, so a scooter may be better than a car. For an easygoing traveler on a limited budget, it could still work, depending on your luck. There are worse places around.

I booked two nights at first since I hadn’t stayed at this resort before, then added three more. The villa was clean and had a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and hot plate. There were a few English-language TV channels. The place was very nice, and I’d recommend it to friends. The access road worried me on the first ride in, but after a day I got used to taking my scooter along it. You just have to watch out for monkeys. There’s no pool, so it won’t suit you if having one is essential.
