This is one of my happy places in Thailand. I like sitting inside the room, watching the fish, or even hopping out the window. Time on the pier feels special in the morning, during the day, at sunset, or at night, with locals, visitors, stars, and nature all around. Mr. Phat, the owner, is friendly and helpful with any questions or problems. I’ll definitely return. Room Nr. 9 is my favorite. Enjoy!

The views are incredible, with both sunrise and sunset to enjoy. It may be the cutest place I’ve ever stayed. The basics are pretty basic: you flush the toilet with a bucket, and I don’t think the shower gets warm. But that fits the fishing village feel, and it costs less than a hostel bed on the island. The owner is really nice and helpful.

Pat and his wife are wonderful hosts, and the guesthouse felt like home. I spent 11 days there and found it so relaxing. The charming, genuine house stands on stilts above the water at the far end of Bang Bao fishing pier, with outstanding views of the islands south of Koh Chang and the sunrise. There are several restaurants and a 7/11 on the pier, and Klong Kloi Beach is a 20 minute walk away. Lots of Rasta places ;) I especially recommend Hippy Hut. Thanks for looking after me, and see you next year!

The main draw is the unusual setting, a house over the water 700m out along the pier, and that’s a big part of the room price. The room is basic but pleasant enough, with an eastern-style bathroom and manual flush. WiFi was fast and good. When we arrived, though, the manager seemed out of it and didn’t know about our booking. There was a lot of confusion, and we only got into our room a few hours later. Be prepared for something similar.

The owners run this guesthouse from their own home, and they’re hospitable and welcoming. Rooms were tidy and quiet, with fast Wi-Fi. There’s a long, airy corridor and a terrace overlooking Bang Bao pier and the bay, a nice place to sit with a beer in the evening. Best of all, there were no mosquitoes, so we could sleep with the windows wide open and use just a fan to stay cool.
