The garden alone made this feel like a restful place to stay, and Ja even grows fresh vegetables there for cooking. She knows the area well and can show you Lampang's temples and landmarks from a local point of view if you want. She also knows the nearby elephant sanctuary and can take you to see the elephants. I had a wonderful stay in her welcoming home, learned a lot about this part of Thailand, and would recommend it for solo travelers or groups traveling with animals.

The village felt warm and welcoming, and we loved unwinding on the wooden terrace in the evenings. Baan Mali is peaceful, and Ja looked after us so well throughout our weekend. We had a great time cooking together, sharing a Thai fondue evening, and getting her tips on what to see around the region. Thanks again for all the time you spent with us. Camille and Guillaume

The host was still easy to reach when we checked in after dark, even though we'd just come from Chiang Mai and Mae Kampong. We were there over New Year's, and the first sunrise of the year was lovely from the other house behind the main building, reached by a steep staircase. They're renovating that area, so more rooms may be available after January once the work is done. The owner was also happy to chat in the mornings and evenings. One day, an older woman came by with gifts she'd made, including lovely woven sticky rice baskets and chairs. We bought a small basket as a souvenir. The place has a homey feel, with stained glass windows and wooden door latches, more like staying in someone's house than just being at a hotel. I'm Thai, and I really appreciated that atmosphere and the chance for guests to meet each other. Pets are welcome, though we didn't bring ours. We spent ages playing with another family's Corgi. I called before booking to ask about rooms with larger bathrooms, since my parents, both over 60, were coming with us. The host gave me helpful advice. Our bedroom and bed were spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom had both a shower and a bucket. We used the bucket to cool off in the chilly weather and get a break from the hot showers back in Bangkok. Mornings were quiet, with little traffic around town. The location made it easy to get around, though the city shuts down early. Breakfast was rice porridge and boiled eggs, and we brought drip coffee to enjoy upstairs in the breeze. After arriving, we went to Papa Craft, used a discount voucher, bought a bunch of ceramic souvenirs, and had drinks there. We also visited the Rooster Eye Ceramic Museum another day, tried making ceramic bowls, and waited for them to be fired and sent back to Bangkok. I chose well staying here. The host was kind, attentive, and full of recommendations. I only got around to writing this in mid-February because I started using the rooster-patterned mug they gave me as a birthday gift. If I get the chance, I'll recommend the place and stay again, maybe with my pet next time.

It feels like visiting a friend's house, with a shared spot to sit and unwind. The rooms have separate bedrooms and living rooms, the air is fresh, and it's quiet. Pets are welcome, and the kind owner can suggest places to visit.
