The garden out back is a little green paradise, beautifully kept, and most nights were peaceful. We spent almost a week at Bunyagard in February, in one of its eight cozy bungalows arranged in two rows of four. The rooms are small, as we already knew, but the bathroom is surprisingly roomy. The walls are thin, though it didn't bother us much. One night there was a couple arguing, and I hope they've sorted things out by now. The staff were super friendly. They helped with our heavy bags and arranged ferry taxis. There's free water, tea, and coffee any time, plus a simple but delicious breakfast buffet. One lady speaks English fluently; we managed to chat with the rest using Google Translate. Where there's a will, there's a way ;) We hung a line outside to dry our clothes, and only noticed at checkout that the staff had replaced our amateur knots with proper professional ones. THANK YOU, Bunyagard, next time you'll have to teach us! There's a shortcut to the beach through another resort. Just ignore the “No Trespassing” signs, and be respectful by cleaning up after yourself. The staff told us the resorts don't mind as long as visitors keep the beach clean. 5/5 🤍 We'd definitely love to stay at Bunyagard again!

The beds were softer than at most places we'd stayed, and the area is lovely, with the million beach nearby and one of the island's best restaurants and bars within walking distance. Still, I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. At 1,5k per night, it seems okay for this expensive island, but service could be better, especially for a new place. There's no room service during the stay, so no cleaning, fresh water, or towels. After a few days the sand we tracked in made the room uncomfortable. The rooms are also very small for two people with luggage. The shower has an awkward angle and weak water pressure. We asked for a shuttle to our next hotel on the island, and the driver wanted 400 bht, which felt too expensive too.

This hotel's conduct was utterly despicable. Guests were penalized for unintentionally breaking rules that hadn't been disclosed. One guest admitted their mistake and was willing to pay a 1,000 fine, but the hotel took advantage of their foreign status and demanded more than the original penalty. Most of them seem to have little awareness of the law, imposing exorbitant fines as if that were normal.

I had a great stay at this new place. The staff were lovely and helpful the whole time, and renting a scooter from them made it really easy to explore the area. Highly recommend!
