The beach is beautiful, with white sand, clear water that’s good for swimming, and a gorgeous sunset. It was spotless while we were there. The gardens are shady and lovely, too. This is an old-style Thai resort, and yes, it’s old, but the room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, the shower hot, and the air-conditioning worked. There’s a fan as well. The restaurant’s a little pricey, though lots of dishes are still 100 baht and the Thai food is really good. Breakfast is excellent if you go for the Thai dishes and fresh fruit. Otherwise, it’s toast, fried eggs and that awful sausage ham stuff. If you want a fancy boutique place, go somewhere else.

The beach is lovely for walks, and there are plenty of loungers and bean bags to use. I also liked the little jetty walkway. The bungalows were spacious and clean, and the resort is right on the beach with friendly staff. Breakfast was okay, but we didn’t enjoy the other food at the restaurant. I’d recommend renting a motorbike from the resort and checking out other beaches around the island, especially the nearby ones.

Nam at reception was amazing. She was attentive every day, helped with everything, and always got back to us within minutes. We’re very grateful to her, and the owners should really appreciate her. The resort has an older style, but the staff take good care of the greenery. The bungalows are compact, with a fridge and air-conditioning that worked well. It’s difficult to get around the island without a motorbike, which you can rent there. The beach was the longest I saw on the island, and we loved our evening walks. At the far end on the left, near the rocks, you can snorkel. The receptionist will lend you masks for free. At the far end on the right, there’s an inexpensive seafood restaurant and a small family-run shop where we bought drinks and snacks.

We booked at the last minute, when options were limited, and the price made this resort seem reasonable. It’s at one of the far ends of Ko Kut. There are lots of rooms but very few guests. Our room was about a 4/10 and very outdated. We’d booked a double but got two single beds. After I asked about switching, the receptionist made a couple of calls and offered us one of the rooms farthest away in the resort. We stayed put and had the beds pushed together, which worked out fine. Breakfast was just okay. There’s a coffee booth by the beach, but breakfast only came with instant coffee. The staff seemed disengaged and unmotivated. A bracelet stayed in the same place near the breakfast stairs for two days, and something that looked like vomit on a walkway wasn’t cleaned up the whole time we were there. The beach was okay, but not especially impressive compared with others on the island. A big plus was that we could rent a scooter at the front desk, making it easy and enjoyable to explore elsewhere. If you need a budget-friendly place to sleep and plan to spend most of your time out exploring, it’s fine. For a beautiful beachfront stay and a nicer atmosphere, I’d pick a cozy homestay with a scooter or a higher-end resort on one of Ko Kut’s lovely beaches.

We had five wonderful days at Ao Phrao Beach Resort on Koh Kut. The tropical beach is wide and beautiful, the garden is lovely, and the people working there made the stay unforgettable with their warmth and helpfulness. Having a restaurant right on the beach felt magical. Pook made our cocktails and Mos served them with such friendly, familiar service that we felt at home. The Piña Coladas, Mai Tais and Strawberry Daiquiris were our favorites, and the drinks could hold their own against anything at a Bangkok rooftop bar.
