We booked a house, but it wasn't clean or ready when we arrived, so we couldn't stay there. We asked the owner for a refund and she said no, explaining that she'd lost a business opportunity. We understood, and she said she'd fix the house within two days, so we waited elsewhere. After two days, we came back and found it in the same condition. The owner said she didn't have a key to get in, even though we'd left it with her. When we asked if she could fix it then, she said we'd need to wait four more days because the items she'd ordered hadn't arrived. We waited again and called when the four days were up, but she said the technician wasn't ready that day. We finally returned the key because we didn't want to keep hoping. She didn't try to do anything. I'd give this fancy place zero stars.

We hadn't planned on staying at Ton Tawan Resort because of its poor reviews, but ended up there by a roundabout route and were pleasantly surprised. A lovely family runs it now, especially the wonderful Nookie, who made our stay so enjoyable. Our room was clean, bright, and nicely furnished, and people staying longer can use the kitchen downstairs in the bungalow. The place feels homey and authentic. Nookie went out of her way to make us comfortable, cooked delicious breakfasts and genuinely authentic Thai food in the evenings, booked our onward trip, and handled our laundry. She tries to meet every guest's wishes. Like nearly every place in Thailand at the time, the resort wasn't in top shape because of the pandemic. The pool wasn't completely intact and a few small repairs were needed here and there. I've stayed in places of many different standards and prices during my trip, and I don't count damage caused by Corona against it. Traveling to beautiful places in Thailand also means taking responsibility for them. Tourism matters to Thailand, and Corona put so many livelihoods at risk. Ton Tawan is a lovely, family-friendly place with a great feel. The nearest dream beach is only a five-minute scooter ride away.
