Sweet Life Community Guesthouse

The guidebook Mayan put together was a highlight, and the common room and kitchen-dining space feel welcoming and well furnished. The location is also just right, close to Old Town while still peaceful and quiet. The hosts make clear that this is a guesthouse intended to feel like home, so don’t expect hotel-style service. They were very sweet about explaining that. I had a wonderful stay and would come back.

The housekeeper was fantastic and kept the whole place spotless. The owners, though, were nowhere to be seen during our two-week stay, and they were slow to reply or help us book activities. I guess the experience depends on luck and how considerate the other guests are, since the owners don’t seem to manage that side of things. It was noisy, and the rooms lacked basic furniture like a table or clothes rack. The shared lounge also didn’t feel like the welcoming space in the photos: just hard canvas seating without cushions, no table, and a cluttered corner.

We had a sea-view room, and it was lovely hearing the sea at night. The location was great, and everything was clean. Drinking water was available for everyone all the time. The owner was helpful and easy to communicate with, and the housekeeper was nice too ❤️

We liked having the little lounge where we could work or relax, and the kitchen was fully equipped. The owner also helped with everything we needed, which we appreciated. Still, the place looks nicer than it works in practice. The walls are paper thin, so we could hear everything around and above us, including guests who didn’t know how to behave after 10 pm. That made the noise awful, though it wasn’t the owner’s fault. Brushing our teeth in the middle of the kitchen while people walked by or ate was awkward, and the common room floors weren’t very clean. Since you have to go barefoot indoors, we carried dirt into our rooms.
