We booked Naivacha tents through air BnB because the photos showed cabins, and that's what we wanted. We paid above the usual amount for a cabin, then arrived to find out we'd be in a tent. We were told the tent was an upgrade, but that made no sense to us. A German couple told us their tent booking had supposedly been upgraded to a cabin, but they didn't get one in the end either. It left us feeling that Naivacha tents tells people whatever will get them into one type of accommodation or the other. The tents were noisy, with jungle sounds and dogs howling through the night. We were told mosquitoes weren't in season, but still got lots of bites because the tents weren't fully sealed, especially around the shower and toilet. During our five nights, nobody offered to clean or replace towels, though we got extra towels when we asked. Gecko droppings built up in the shower area, which was disgusting and unacceptable. Breakfast was average, just a few slices of watermelon or pineapple, no juice, and greasy, cheap sausages and bacon. The dogs seemed to love the food, especially a very skinny pup who looked undernourished, so we gave him our greasy breakfasts and bought dog biscuits too because they didn't seem to be looked after or fed properly. I wouldn't recommend this place or return. There are better stays on the island for the same or slightly less.

The oceanfront tent had a wonderful view and was very spacious and comfortable, with great beds and a perfect bathroom. It's about a 10-minute walk to the next resort for a drink or dinner. The reception manager can help arrange boat tickets, rent an electric vehicle, or make breakfast. Scooters and bicycles are also available to rent. There are a few puppies and dogs around. They're harmless, but shouldn't be fed. Sometimes they bark at night, and I couldn't go sit by the ocean to do my night photography, but that's all right. The place is gorgeous.

Noi was the absolute highlight of our stay. She's great, caring, and made everything work. She arranged transfers to and from the dock, our boat to Trat, and the onward bus to BKK, and everything went smoothly as planned. Renting a scooter from her was a lifesaver, and we explored the whole island over our seven days. We also loved our tent's location and watched the sunsets each night. There are free bikes and kayaks, a fridge, free drinking water, and a toilet and shower in the tent. It has zippered doors, but the shower and toilet aren't fully sealed from the outside. The hot water on demand worked very well. The tent has air conditioning, though we never needed it because the fan was enough. WiFi was sometimes very good and sometimes very slow. We got quite a few bites but don't know if they came from the beach or the tent. The cabins seemed better sheltered from mosquitoes. A nice sandy beach next door belongs to the same people. We booked late after cancelling a resort on Koh Kood that seemed suspicious, and with Koh Kood full and Koh Mak nearly full, were lucky to find a tent here. Breakfast was simple, eggs cooked how you like them. There are cabins as well as tents.

The island is quiet and doesn't get many tourists, and the water is clean and nice. We spent four nights here. The owner and staff were lovely, helpful, and friendly. Our tent was clean, with its own bathroom, though ants or spiders can turn up. That's part of staying somewhere peaceful where nature is close by. The beach by the property is a mix of sand and rocks, but there are nice sandy beaches nearby. You can rent bikes, scooters, or even a melex. I’d go with a bike since the island isn't big. There’s inexpensive local food around, including Dum Noodles. It’s a good place for a three-day trip if you’re already on Koh Chang. We also enjoyed the Koh Mak Divers snorkeling trip as a change from beach time.

Onn and Noi made us feel like family and were incredibly helpful during our stay on koh mak. The tents have everything, even air con, so it felt more like glamping than camping. There were some bugs, but that's to be expected in a tent. Breakfast was simple and organic, and with around 180 or more hens, there were plenty of eggs. We could use kayaks for free. The spot is secluded, though there are local restaurants and a supermarket nearby, so there was no need to head to the main area. It's also close to the pier for trips to koh kit or trat. My brother and I would love to come back. Thanks for the hospitality.
