We had a great three-day honeymoon stay at Cliff Resort. Reception went above and beyond, even helping us find a boat to Krabi very early when I had an important request. There are some bad reviews about the staff, but our experience was really good. The rooms were spacious, and once we worked out the AC and shower, it was pretty comfortable. The hotel is old, though staff clean every day. I chose it for the quiet and incredible Sunrise views. Yes, it's a bit of a walk into town, but we didn't mind getting the steps in. We didn't have breakfast here and went into town instead.

The beach was easily the best part of our stay. Most mornings, until around 11 or a little later, it was just us there, with loungers and towels ready. The water was lovely, and I really enjoyed spending time by it. The sun disappears from the beach around 1:30 or 2 because of the hotel's position, but that didn't bother us. Our room opened straight onto the pool, which was a lovely place to sit and unwind, though we didn't swim because it didn't look clean. We stayed four nights, though three would have been enough for the island. The hotel is at the far end, away from the loudest area, and the location is probably its strongest point. Near the main pier felt like what my husband and I called the “death zone,” full of drunk British travelers. It had a Magaluf sort of vibe, and wasn't for me. The room was huge, with plenty of space, and the bed was hard but comfortable. It had amenities, and the air conditioning cooled it down quickly. The bathroom looked nice at first glance but was rough around the edges. The shower was big, but the water pressure was awful and the temperature wasn't great either. The hotter it got, the weaker the flow became, almost a drip. With long hair, washing it took ages. I also struggled with having to put toilet paper in the bin instead of flushing it, though I think that's more of a Thailand thing. Breakfast was neither great nor terrible, with eggs, toast and fluorescent orange juice. By lunchtime, hundreds of boats arrive with thousands of day trippers, and the island loses the relaxed feel I expected from Phi Phi. I knew it was lively, but I hadn't expected it to feel so chavvy and grim. It's a shame to see such a beautiful island overrun by young British tourists. There are better islands and hotels out there, even if this beach is beautiful. The beach is the hotel's best feature. I wouldn't spend the money to come back to Phi Phi.

The pool views are incredible, the rooms are spacious, and the staff were really helpful. We had a fantastic stay and I'd definitely recommend the resort. It's a short walk from the main pier, and the free luggage carrying service made that much easier. I also filmed an honest video showing the room, pool and walk from the pier. It's on YouTube under “Phi Phi Islands & Maya Bay 2026 Travel Guide | Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort Review”.

I really liked the beach in the morning and through the middle of the afternoon. It's on its own and away from the crowds, which was a real plus. The resort itself, though, felt isolated at the very end of that side of the island, so reaching the main town meant a fair walk. I was disappointed by how bare and sterile the place felt, with little holiday atmosphere. Because of the resort's religious beliefs, alcohol and pork aren't available on the menu, something I wish I'd known before booking. The facilities are weathered and run-down, and the neglected feel doesn't match the online photos. Service varied. I don't mean every staff member, but at times I felt like a second-rate guest, which wasn't the usual Thai welcome. One English-speaking front desk employee spoke to us in a superior way and said the hotel was fully booked, so a late checkout wasn't possible. I checked Booking.com and found that wasn't true. A simple no would have been better than what felt like dishonesty and a lack of respect for customers. Book at your own risk. With limited amenities, that experience at reception and the inconsistent service, I can't recommend the place with any confidence.

The location is the one good thing I can say about this hotel. I would have changed hotels on the first day. I want to relax on holiday, and that didn't happen here. I wouldn't pay 50€ or more a night for it. I couldn't sleep until 4 AM because of noisy, inconsiderate neighbors. Reception's response was, “IT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM.” They offered no fix, such as moving me, and no refund. They didn't seem to care that I couldn't rest, and said so right in front of me. The rooms aren't soundproof. The hotel itself is in very bad condition, with leaks and defects in the floors, doors and walls. Common areas and the terrace weren't cleaned regularly. A chocolate sweet sat outside my room's terrace for three days, melting in the sun, and my room wasn't clean when it was handed over. Breakfast was poor: few choices, no proper coffee or juice, just dissolved powder, and hard old bread that wasn't edible. I went elsewhere for breakfast on the remaining days. Aggressive monkeys were all over the hotel too, so relaxing on the terrace meant staying alert the whole time. These aren't European standards, and for me the hotel wasn't a comfortable place to stay.
