Phi Phi Long Beach Resort & Villa

We had booked months earlier, but the resort looked nothing like the photos on the booking sites. Renovations were going on everywhere and the pool was tiny. The room was spacious but outdated, with a precarious-looking balcony, squeaky uneven wooden floors, and a mouldy toilet. Its door looked old, too. After checking in, we stayed in the room for only five minutes before going to look for another nearby resort. Once we found one, we went back and checked out. Getting there had already been a rough start: they picked us up at the pier in the rain, though it wasn't too heavy, and left us on a far shore. We waited 30 minutes for the boat to the hotel, then were dropped at a different shore and had to climb a steep, muddy forest path.

The staff were kind throughout. A friendly man who seemed to be a supervisor or manager was around all day and took care of requests. The cleaning ladies were lovely too. Even when we didn't ask to have the room cleaned, they left fresh towels and bottles of water on the table outside. For the price, this is the best value hotel on Long Beach. The bungalows are a little dated, but the room, sheets, and towels were clean, which is what we wanted. The breakfast buffet was amazing, with different dishes each day of our four-day stay. The food was made by Thai cooks, so we got a taste of the country we were visiting.

The location is beautiful and the reception and restaurant staff were brilliant, but the room was uncomfortable. It needs a major face-lift, with dust and cobwebs on the ceiling and insects crawling in the kettle. The bed was hard. Long boats kept coming and going, so it was hard to relax, and the bar wasn't much of a bar. We spent most of our time at the resort next door. The food there was amazing and the drinks were good. I'd highly recommend booking at Phi Phi The Beach Restaurant ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Long Beach had the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful water we wanted. The beach is outstanding, with lovely sand and clear water, and the area felt calm. We went into the center once and knew right away it wasn't for us: loud, crowded, chaotic, and unpleasant. The island gets a lot of daily visitors from Krabi, Phuket, and nearby places, many of them day-trippers or short-stay guests. For a 5-6 day holiday, this area felt ideal. I recommend water shoes because there are sea urchins. I saw them while snorkeling. I paid 60 USD a night, which felt like a very good deal for the location, breakfast, and overall quality. The rooms are spacious and consistently clean, and housekeeping was attentive every day. The air conditioning worked well. Some construction details were unfinished, with cracks, chips, exposed materials, and unpainted surfaces. I booked a twin room, but none was available when we arrived. The hotel gave us an extra bed for free, so we had a king bed and a single bed, with enough space. The shower was basic, just an open floor without a divider, but acceptable for the price and the island's limited logistics. Electricity was reliable. Wi-Fi only worked near reception, and the signal didn't reach my room higher up the hill. That was my biggest disappointment, so I had to use mobile data. Reception and restaurant staff were welcoming. There was a free transfer from the main pier during check-in and check-out hours. We chose long-tail taxis instead, which cost 120 THB per person by day and 150 THB in the evening. The concierge team helped with luggage, meeting us at the beach when we arrived by long-tail boat and taking our bags to the room. A 100 THB tip seemed fair for the distance over the sand and the heat. The hotel has a pool, though I didn't use it because I wasn't sure how often the water was replaced. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty to choose from, reliably good coffee, fresh fruit, solid continental options, and a few Thai dishes. The fruit was usually dragon fruit and watermelon, or pineapple and watermelon. It kept us full until late afternoon. There are several good cafés nearby. Walking to the right side of the beach, we found a small cozy place where we ate regularly without any problems. I wouldn't recommend eating in the main tourist center, where food hygiene complaints are common. Long Beach had everything we needed, and I highly recommend Phi Phi Long Beach Resort Villa.
