Freedom Hostel at Phi Phi

The bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on tile, and the air conditioning never really cooled the room. We struggled to sleep both nights. We’d come for our honeymoon, and the room had a sweet honeymoon decoration that we appreciated. The bellman was kind and carried our bags when we arrived. The late checkout request was where things really soured. The hotel didn’t seem busy, but the front desk woman was rude to my husband and said we’d have to pay for a whole extra night, 2500 baht, with no flexibility. We agreed, then came back at 2 pm to find the room still uncleaned and the water not replenished. It felt like we’d paid a lot just to delay the cleaning. The younger staff seemed willing to help, but the more senior employee kept pointing to the late checkout policy sign instead of looking for a solution. I understand customer service can be hard, but the lack of empathy was disappointing on a special trip. Our first welcome was lovely, but the discomfort and service left us with a bad impression.

The staff were really friendly, and the location is superb. You can also use the gym at Banyan after getting a ticket from reception. The breakfast coupons took me back to travelling a decade ago. This hotel made the trip unforgettable. Highly recommend.

Tonsai pier is very close, and the staff are pleasant. But the place feels run down and dated, the floors were really dirty, and the whole hotel smelled strongly of sewerage. The mattress was like concrete, and the spare pillows in the wardrobe were unusable because of the awful smell in there too. There’s no lift, so bags may have to go up to the fifth floor, and it’s overpriced for what you get. I wouldn’t stay again, and I’m not sure I’d return to phi phi at all.

Right in the middle of town, with a short walk from the pier and to both beaches. The pool was lovely, and they had free towels for the pool and beach. Our room was cleaned every day and the amenities were restocked. Friendly, attentive staff and an excellent breakfast too. No complaints!
