Tara Inn at The Rock

It’s the cheapest hostel on the island, and for a few days it’s not too bad. The location and landscape are good, and the boss is quite kind and gentle with customers. Still, it’s a 30-year-old inn where the parents run the place and the children are in charge. The old facilities can lead to complaints, though they’re planning to remodel them around next year.

The airco made the room freezing. I tried to adjust the temperature but couldn’t, and there was only one small blanket. When I woke up at 05:00, there was already no water, and there was no water from 13:30 till 17:00 either. The rooms were dirty, with sand on the bed. The bathroom was disgusting, there was no toilet paper or trash bins, and no lockers. Terrible.

The room is fairly spacious and the view is decent, but there were a lot of letdowns. The beds were extremely hard, and the pillows were so tall that I woke with neck pain. There’s nowhere in the bathroom to hang towels, and the sockets don’t work properly. It was also strange that no bottled water was offered at check in. In all the hundreds of hotels I’ve stayed at, this was the first time, and in my opinion it was poor service.

Bring ear plugs if music bothers you, because the nearby bars play it until late. The room was clean, the AC worked perfectly, and the staff were lovely. The location is ideal, close to everything, and the price is good for the island. The room had an absolutely amazing view. The bathroom could use a refresh, but it was okay for a couple of nights.
