The people made this stay especially memorable. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the host did more than expected to help with every request, big or small. Villa Lydia has plenty of room, from spacious dining areas for long, relaxed meals to cozy little corners for reading. The rooms are large and have gorgeous views of the forest and islands on the horizon. Waking up there feels like a dream. The infinity pool is hard to resist, whether first thing in the morning or around golden hour.

The villa butler welcomed us on Ko Yao Noi and arranged everything on the island. Her recommendations were all fantastic. There’s also a free open-air van and driver to get around, and the villa staff can cook lunch or dinner, on top of the amazing breakfast, or drive you to one of the many nearby restaurants. Being picked up at the airport was perfect. Villa Lydia gave us one of the best hotel stays of our lives, and the whole holiday was wonderful. We’ll definitely come back.

What the villa was really like... We booked three nights after seeing the reviews and photos rated above 9/10 on Google, Airbnb and booking. We were horrified by how dirty it was. The sheets and towels were stained, cockroaches were all around, and a mouse even scratched one of us. One room smelled so strongly of mold that it was hard to breathe in there. Another had tractor-like noise, and its broken AC leaked, leaving the room unbearably hot. All the mattresses were hard as stones. The maintenance was terrible overall, with leaking toilets, broken handles and flooded showers.

The villa is huge and looks just like the pictures, with an amazing view and a lovely infinity pool. The kitchen is fully stocked, including juicers and a blender, which worked well for us since we enjoy cooking and made our own meals. There’s also an extensive breakfast menu to order from for the next day, and the staff can cook dinner with lots of traditional Thai dishes. Villa Lydia and its staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. They picked us up and drove us to the villa for free, where welcome drinks were waiting. They can also help arrange tours, book ferry tickets or set up an in-house massage at the villa’s Bamboo Spa. We loved our stay and would happily return.

The island has an authentic Thai feel that Krabi and Phuket just can’t match. Villa Lydia itself was a wonderful place to stay, and the butler and staff looked after us with hospitality and service beyond what we expected. They helped arrange massages at the Villa spa, motorbike rentals and a private chef. Everything was great, and we hope to come back soon.
