Awa Resort Koh Chang

Room 724 was a Deluxe pool View, with a big balcony overlooking the pool. The room and bathroom were both very spacious, and the bathroom was well laid out. The bedroom could use better lighting, but otherwise it was perfect. There was a fantastic breakfast selection, though no bacon, and the Wi-Fi was very fast. The gardens and pool area are beautifully landscaped, and the high ceilings are lovely. It looks about 6 or 7 years old and is very good quality. In high season I didn't find the room good value, though it was still well worth staying. It's ideally placed for bars, restaurants, and a very clean beach. Staff were excellent, and the buy one get one free cocktails after 1:00 p.m. were a nice touch. It's a 4-star hotel that feels better. If it's your first visit to kho change, I'd say come here. I'd have no hesitation about coming back.

The main street has no sidewalks, so getting around is difficult, especially with children. The breakfast is very modest, and the room air conditioning is really loud even on its lowest setting. Staff, apart from reception, didn't smile as much as we're used to elsewhere. On the plus side, the rooms are bright and a good size, and there are several restaurants nearby.

Dear hotel, your way of treating customers deserves 0 stars. I booked three months ahead, but couldn't make the trip because THAILAND had closed its land border with Cambodia. This information wasn't available anywhere in Europe. We only found out five days before buying a bus ticket from Cambodia that the border was closed, so I couldn't get from Koh Kong Island in Cambodia to Koh Chang. As soon as I learned this, I contacted TRIP.com, the accommodation agent I used to book a place on the island in Cambodia as well, and I could prove what had happened. They contacted you twice asking for a free cancellation, and you refused both times. I also wrote to you twice and got no reply. I was very surprised that trip.com sent me €50 in credits as a small compensation for the canceled accommodation. If I had known the land borders were closed, would I have booked with you? Please think about that. I understand tourism in Thailand is declining, but it will keep doing so if you carry on this way. You've lost a customer for my next visit to Koh Chang. I hope the measly €150 was worth it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone. Thank you.

The pool is magnificent, the private beach is lovely, and the hotel has a great location with plenty of space. Staff were very friendly and helpful. But we didn't sleep very well because the rooms are poorly soundproofed. We could hear the upstairs neighbor walking heavily in the middle of the night and moving tables at 5 a.m., as if they were in our room. Maybe we were just unlucky with the neighbors.
