Koh Ma Beach Resort

The resort itself is in a great spot, right by a beautiful beach with amazing sunsets. Our room’s location was much less appealing. It was above reception, away from the main resort area, and traffic noise started in the morning and carried on. The mountain view from the balcony was beautiful, but below it were the back-of-house operations, including greywater dumping. One night some kind of motor started up and roared like a jet engine. Service was friendly and mostly smooth. We asked the kitchen for a spoon to eat leftovers and paid a 50B deposit, getting a handwritten receipt. When we returned the spoon, the staff seemed confused and it took more than 15 minutes to get the deposit back. The service itself was adequate.

We came for a peaceful beach break, and the quiet atmosphere made it easy to relax and switch off. The restaurant and beach bar were handy, with pleasant views and a laid-back feel, especially in the evenings. Staff were helpful and friendly, and things felt easygoing, with no rush or stress. Koh Ma Beach Resort is right on Koh Ma beach, one of the most beautiful and relaxed beaches on Koh Phangan. The water is clear and calm for swimming and snorkeling, and the sandbar to Koh Ma island looks especially stunning at sunset. The rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, with what you need for a beach stay. It isn’t a luxury resort, but the authentic, casual feel suits the area well. If you want a quiet beachfront stay with a beautiful beach just outside, it’s a great choice.

I’m sharing this to warn other travelers about what I experienced with Koh Ma Beach Resort. Regional instability in the GCC led to my flights being canceled for three days in a row. I was stranded at the airport and couldn’t get to Thailand. This was outside my control, but the resort showed no flexibility or empathy. Communication was a major problem. I tried reaching them through Booking.com and by phone. They told me to use WhatsApp, which I did right away, then repeatedly ignored my messages and gave no acknowledgment or help. They also told Booking.com that I was simply “arriving one day late,” which misrepresented my situation and, in my view, was used to keep my payment. Airspace closures had legally prevented me from traveling. A crisis can show you how a business treats its guests. Based on this experience, Koh Ma Beach Resort seemed interested only in keeping my money while I was in a vulnerable position because of international conflict. I strongly advise against booking here if reliable, professional communication matters to you.

The rooms were very clean, and we had no complaints about them. We also found the service good, though anyone expecting high European standards may be disappointed. The people there are simple and aren’t trying to flatter guests to make them feel better. It’s a good location if you want somewhere quieter and farther from the city. You can get a very affordable taxi at reception or rent a bike. The food was good, just not the best. We ate at Wangsai resort or went out to explore the area.
