Palio Hostel

We were left without a place to stay on the night of the full moon party, despite having paid and received confirmation for a room. Luckily, Expedia found us another option. When we arrived, the owner said they couldn’t find our booking and asked how long we planned to stay. They then claimed they no longer used Expedia, even though they had other bookings that day and were still advertising rooms there. After I contacted Expedia, I found out the owner hadn’t removed the account and was still selling rooms on the platform. It seems they accept bookings and payment, then deny confirmed reservations and give priority to guests staying longer. The whole thing felt incredibly sketchy. I strongly advise people not to book here. The lack of reliability and what seemed like dishonest practices made this an unacceptable experience.

The location was good and close to everything, but the service was really bad and the rooms were unclean. We asked the owner the night before if we could check out at 7 am for our ferry, and he agreed. In the morning no one was there to return our deposit. The only person at the front was some random guy sleeping there who didn’t even work at the hostel, and we nearly missed our ferry. The room was also very poor: hardly any light, mosquitoes everywhere, and worms and mice inside. Staff sat just outside our room watching football and yelling at night, so we couldn’t sleep.

The bed was super comfortable, which helped me recover after the full moon party, and I really appreciated having a gym and Muay Thai training there. The staff were so, so friendly, honestly some of the nicest people I’ve met. Thanks for being great. If I’m back in Koh Phangan, I’ll stay there again.

We found this hostel to be a good, fun option for a cheap stay. We paid 300 baht a night, and the place is pretty basic. We were there for three nights during the full moon party and booked on arrival without a reservation. The six bed dorm was clean, though it got sandy quickly and was cleaned once. The bathroom was good and the AC worked. Our room was above the Thai boxing arena, and you enter through the arena. We got to watch Thai boxing and use the basic gym for free. The bar outside was a nice place to hang out or get ready for the full moon party. Although it’s near the lake, I didn’t notice more mosquitoes than elsewhere. The front desk woman was very kind and helpful, including when we needed to figure out how to get to Surat Thani airport very early.
