U Hostel Koh Phangan

There was barely enough room for 6 people to move around, let alone open all our bags on the floor at once. The pictures make the room look much larger than it is, but in reality it takes only a few steps to reach the end. Although it had 6 beds, it didn't have 6 lockers or charging sockets. The door lock was broken, and all 6 guests had to share one bathroom.

I spent 17 days at U hostel and would definitely return. It’s very central and close to the beach, and the facilities are both attractive and comfortable. There’s a bar, a place to eat, and a live DJ. The staff were kind and friendly, and I felt very safe leaving my belongings around because nothing ever happened.

The location was a plus, and surprisingly there weren’t many insects despite how filthy the hostel was. The room itself was in bad shape and overcrowded. Two of the three bunk beds had no ladders, the beds were uncomfortable, and one was just a 5 CM topper on a hard wooden slab. We paid 1000 bahts, and despite asking several times, only got one blanket, so one of us slept without one. The hostel often smelled of marijuana even though no one was smoking in the room. The 5 boys we shared with said it was dirty when they arrived and was the worst hostel they’d stayed at in SE Asia. There were no lockers, and at first we weren’t given a room key. Anyone could have walked in. Another guest later told us the whole room shared one key, so since we weren’t travelling together we had to coordinate its use or leave the door unlocked. The host had also oversold and wanted my friend and me to share a bed.

U hostel is the best hostel in Koh phangan! The rooms are clean and the aircon is amazing. The staff were amazing too, and made the whole experience so memorable. Love love love U hostel, I can’t wait to come back!
