Baan Supparod

There were no breakfasts during our visit, probably because of covid-19. Otherwise, the little bungalow was clean and comfortable, with a good bed and colorful, lively room decor. Free water and coffee were provided in the room, and a hair-dryer would be a useful addition. It's in a good spot on the island's north side, a short walk or motorbike ride from the "main street". The small chairs outside made a nice setting for an afternoon beer. We saw some mosquitoes in the evening, so bring repellent. We'd stay again.

For the price, this was excellent value. It's a 5m8n walk from the beach, with simple, relatively clean rooms, warm showers and great AC. WiFi didn't work, and there were a few ants. Being among tropical plants, that didn't surprise or bother me, though others may feel differently. There's very little clothes storage, which may catch some people off guard, though it suited me since most visitors, me included, are here for a weekend with beach clothes. I liked the choice of four Thai breakfasts alongside the international options.

The little houses sit on a slope facing the sea, and sunrise views are wonderful. The place seemed fairly new. It's around 10 minutes on foot to Sai Kaew beach, but wear the wristband from reception or you won't be let in, as the beach seems to be private property of the hotel next door. Their beach chairs are only for their own guests. Other chairs can be rented for 100 baht a day, though they're not as good. The pier is about a 15-20 minute walk, uphill for roughly half the way, so take a taxi if you're carrying lots of baggage. The location may not suit everyone. The nearest convenience store is around 10 minutes away. In my small house, the outlets were in odd places, and the one behind the nightstand was controlled by the lamp switch. I turned off the light and woke up to a dead phone. I waited an hour before heading out because few people besides hotel staff spoke enough English to help, so translation apps are a must. I probably wouldn't stay here again if I returned to the island.

This place has stayed on my mind so much that I've meant to leave a five-star review ever since we got back from our honeymoon five years ago. Before coming here, we stayed at the five-star Hilton in Bangkok, but the service at Baan Supparod was much better. I really like the simple bungalow-style setup and the quiet corner of the island. The main street is only a four-minute walk away. In my opinion, you can't beat this location.
