Sangthian Beach Resort

The beach was filthy, and I picked up 100 lbs of trash in less than an hour. I even found broken glass in the ocean and scattered around the property, so wear shoes. Getting there meant taking a rough, glass-strewn road with very limited access. The room looked nice in photos, but it was tiny, dirty, full of bugs, and barely had space to move. The toilet was stained, apparently from someone missing the bowl, and the bed was harder than rocks. Staff seemed uninterested and didn't ask why we left early. This was the worst stay I've ever had. I wouldn't go near the place, and I'd tell people not to spend their money here.

The beach was lovely, but it couldn't make up for the rest of the stay. In the middle of the night, sewage flooded our room and smelled strongly of human waste. The provided phone numbers didn't work, our belongings were soiled or damaged, and we had to pay to stay at the hotel next door. The next morning we asked for a refund for the three nights we hadn't stayed, but they refused, leaving us feeling forced to remain in unsanitary conditions. Exposure to sewage can cause many illnesses, so this felt dangerous. The room had a box spring instead of a proper mattress, and the sink had no drain, so water ran onto the floor. WiFi never worked, despite repeated claims over several days that it was being fixed. Staff also kept approaching us for massage sales whenever we passed reception. I've traveled in Thailand for five months and this was my worst experience. I don't expect luxury, but this was far beyond acceptable. Don't come here.

The setting is beautiful, which makes the condition of the place especially disappointing. The room for four had bedbugs in all three beds, so we slept on blankets on the floor. The floor and terrace chairs were broken and unsafe, and it looked like the property hadn't been maintained since it was built. The route from reception went through a collapsed building with construction rubbish left behind. WiFi stopped working after an hour, and reception was closed after 17:00. Each evening from 19:30 to 23:00, extremely loud music from the neighboring hotel made it impossible to relax. The reception staff weren't service-minded. There was broken glass everywhere too. Such a pretty place, but the poor upkeep makes this hotel hard to recommend.

For a simple place to sleep while spending the day at the beach, it does the job for the price. It's peaceful and nicely shaded, with friendly staff and a small private beach that's good for families. Lovely Wong Duean beach is very close by. The short road to the resort is bumpy and fun at the moment because it's being constructed.
