ASTROCOCO beach resort by Coconut Beach

The resort itself isn't too bad, but I can't understand why it makes no effort to keep the shared areas free of this behavior when nearby resorts put up large no smoking and no weed signs. Here, there are no signs or rules that we could see. Front desk staff told us smoking weed in common areas wasn't prohibited by the resort. People staying here and visitors smoke on the beach beds and in shared spaces, and the smell even reaches the bungalow balconies. Other guests have to leave their beach chairs to get away from it. Families with babies and children are left breathing the smoke or unable to enjoy the beach, even though they're resort guests. A huge disappointment.

The staff were really friendly and accommodating, and I was very happy with my bungalow. The grounds were clean and there was a pool. The hotel sits right on Lamai beach.

The friendly, engaging service from the staff really stood out. Breakfast was generous, with fresh fruit, Thai and continental choices, and eggs cooked to your preference. The beachside bungalow was good value, though the jet ski rentals nearby make it a bit noisy during the day. Laundry is outsourced but inexpensive. Check-in and checkout were easy, and parking is available if you reserve it. The resort is right on Lamai beach, about a five-minute walk from Lamai night market and close to Lamai Cocktail bar, restaurants, and currency exchange counters.

The beachside location is handy, though it's busy and you hear jet skis and other noise. I tried both a seaview room and a garden bungalow, and would choose the room: it was larger and brighter, with a better bathroom, and seemed a little newer. The facilities and furnishings could still use an upgrade. Staff were helpful and very friendly. The breakfast buffet was good, and costs 450 THB if it's not part of your room rate. Airport transfers take about 30 minutes.
