Lamai Chalet

The pillows were covered in black mould and the mattress was even worse. There were cockroaches everywhere, and they were over 2 inches long. The room didn't seem to have been cleaned properly before we got it, and they handed us air freshener when we arrived. I booked four nights but lasted less than 48 hours. I told the manager why I was leaving, and got a smile and a "very good" in reply. At night you can't walk to the hotel along the road without taking a 400 metre stretch of unlit dirt track. There's no security or anyone at reception overnight, so the hotel felt completely unsecured from either the road or the beach. This is a risk to health.

I thought this place was underrated. The beach location is lovely. Our bungalow wasn't beachfront, but we could still hear the waves, and the sunrise at your doorstep is worth getting up at 6 am for. The bungalow was basic and small, but clean. Housekeeping didn't clean it, though you could ask for fresh towels or toilet paper. Rates were very reasonable for the accommodation in low season, and there seemed to be room to negotiate compared with booking or Agoda. The on-site restaurant seemed a bit pricey for a low budget, so we didn't eat there. Motorbike rental was a very good price and convenient. You're close to the beach and main road, but outside central Lamai, which meant less noise and lower prices. The pool sits in the sun all day, so I wouldn't count on cooling off there except at night, but our baby still enjoyed a swim. The staff were very nice and friendly. Special thanks to Lady Fay for helping me get my lost glasses back. I'm very grateful. Thanks for the hospitality.

I booked this chalet six months ahead and was shocked to arrive and find my room had been changed to a very poor-quality one. I'd requested two single beds but was given one large bed instead. The bathroom was extremely dirty, and the hotel's overall condition was unsatisfactory. I also saw other travellers who had paid and reserved rooms, only to find the chalet full when they checked in. This disappointing experience points to poor management. Reservations should secure the requested room, and the hotel should be kept clean. I hope management improves the service for future guests. Highly not recommended 🤬🤬🤬

For a few days of relaxed, casual beach time, we'd recommend this place, especially to backpackers. It's not a luxury resort. The beach in front is much less crowded than Lamai centre, which makes it really relaxing. There's a beach bar with a lovely bohemian feel, nice music, and a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, and the price felt totally fair. We paid for a nice space and a clean room, and thought the place was a bit underrated. Food takes quite a while to arrive, so allow some time when ordering. That's fine once you know, since they'll bring it to you on the beach.
