Nid's Bungalows

The first impression was that it might be a bit out of the way, but once you get your bearings, it’s actually quite central. We had a lovely 10-day stay. The owners are a great couple, friendly and helpful, and the staff are lovely too. Breakfast is great, and the laundry service is cheap and very fast. I saw some negative reviews about bugs, but if you can’t handle those, Southeast Asia may not be for you anyway. I’ll be back next time I’m in Koh Samui. Thanks Alan and Nid.

We left after just one night because the conditions at Nid’s Bungalow felt unacceptable and unsafe. There were holes in the walls, bugs everywhere, exposed loose wires, and an air conditioner that didn’t work. Aggressive dogs were roaming around too. The owner refunded the unused nights but charged us for the night we stayed. Afterward, he posted a personal, spiteful attack about us on another platform and called us names instead of addressing the property’s condition. One of the worst places I’ve seen. Avoid it.

Alan was incredibly welcoming, and I even spent an evening having a few beers and watching Australian sports with him. Nid cooked some of the best authentic food I ate during my three weeks in Thailand, and I stayed at Nid's Bungalows for a week in June 2024. It was probably the most memorable part of my trip. You can also rent a moped at the property for a good price. The animals, including dogs, ducks, cats and birds, felt like part of everyday life in SE Asia. They were all very friendly, though the dogs bark a bit. I saw complaints about cleanliness and the dogs, but if you book based on the photos and price and expect a 5* hotel, that's on you, not Nid & Alan. One small mishap: my white clothes turned blue when Nid washed them with my blue hat. If you use their laundry service, separate light and dark clothes. :)

Bungalow 23 was in terrible shape, with holes in the walls, ceilings and floors, and ants, cockroaches, mice or rats, and who knows what else in the walls. It looked like something from a horror movie. We checked out a day early because we couldn't stay there another night, but when we calmly explained our concerns, no compensation was offered. Alan said no other guests had complained, though the reviews speak for themselves. The first few nights had been fine until we saw a rat in our room. We told the owners at 8:30pm, but they said they'd look into it in the morning instead of dealing with it then. We'd already booked two more nights and were told we'd need to move to another bungalow, which seemed fine at first. When we left early, Alan was rude and said we needed to get used to bugs and animals in the tropics. I understand that, but the holes in the bungalows should be patched and the place needs some care. This was absurd.
