The staff were the best part of our stay at Avani+ Samui Resort. Everyone we met was kind, welcoming, and caring, and they made us feel at ease throughout. The room was modern, beautiful, and comfortable, with good amenities around the property. Rain kept us indoors for most of four of our five nights, so we made good use of the pool, gym, ping pong, and pool tables. The food was disappointing. Breakfast was underwhelming on the few occasions we tried it, and the restaurant felt overpriced for the quality. A bad cold cheeseburger and club sandwich cost 1000 THB. After our first few meals, we ate elsewhere for the rest of the trip. Driving 10-20 minutes to local restaurants got us much better food and prices. There were also problems with the shower. The pressure was weak and inconsistent, making it hard to rinse shampoo and conditioner out. The fixed shower head leaked and sprayed water around, so we mostly used the detachable one. For a resort marketed as five star, there's room to improve. To me it felt more like a solid four-star stay, though the exceptional staff made it worthwhile.
