Amity Poshtel - Hostel

We booked a private room, but it had such a strong, unpleasant smell that we chose mosquitos over staying inside comfortably and slept with the windows open. We’re backpackers and don’t expect luxury, but this place reminded me that glowing reviews aren’t always earned. After one night, we left without making a fuss. Later I realized I’d forgotten my toiletry bag, so I called to ask if they could post it to me. I offered to pay online, as I’ve done with other places, but got excuses instead: “no manager,” “no English,” “we can’t do that,” “you have to come back.” Sometimes they just hung up. The staff barely spoke English and seemed more interested in their phones than responding or making eye contact. It didn’t come across as a language issue, it felt like they didn’t care. I wouldn’t recommend this “Poshtel” to anyone.

The rooms were okay, but there was no privacy curtain, and getting to the toilets meant a long walk up multiple flights of stairs. That was annoying. The bigger issue was how we were treated when we arrived too early for check-in. My friend and I both had food poisoning the night before. We didn’t need to explain the details, but we were clearly in a bad way. We asked the woman if she could let us in a little early, even just 30 minutes or an hour, since places we’d stayed before had done that if there was space. The hostel has 5 floors. She wouldn’t let us in even 5 minutes before check-in. We sat there for 3 hours. One person checked out during that time, and we saw around 4 people during our stay. I understand policies, but there should be room for empathy. We clearly needed to lie down, use a toilet and get some ac. The staff were inconsiderate.

We came to Krabi over NYE weekend, when all the accommodation was booked. After an hour of walking into places, we found Amity/Green House had 2 beds in a 4 bed door for 300B each. The rooms were decent and spacious, with a locker and lock and a towel. Not a bad place for a couple of nights.

There’s a rooftop terrace, laundry and a smoking area, plus an on-site restaurant that’s expensive but tasty. The location is close to the night market and local shopping plaza. The dorms are great, with only six beds and no bunks, and I never had to wait for the nice washroom’s shower or toilet. The private room was well equipped for the price.
