Crossroads house

We stopped at Crossroad House during the Mae Hong Son Loop and were glad we did. Pon was a wonderful host and showed us the beautiful wooden building where we stayed for two days. People tend to relax at the restaurant, eat amazing food, and chat for hours. It’s a slow, laid-back place. Pon loves cooking for guests and also runs cooking classes. There are basic bicycles for rent, and Mae Hong Son is best explored by bike. There’s a 711 nearby, though the city and night market are a bit farther away.

The hostel is great value, and I slept well. The DLT office is just a four-minute walk away, with the bus station about 10-15 minutes on foot. They offer cooking classes, and the woman who teaches them made the food. You can really taste the difference. Probably the best Pad Thai I’ve had in my two years living in Thailand. I felt so welcome here, and we had such a fun time. Thanks for all the help and recommendations. The cooking classes were a blast, and the chef is an energetic, inspiring woman. If you enjoy good food and friendly people, this place is absolutely worth staying at. Five stars plus!

The rooms are rustic but roomy and comfortable, and the atmosphere here is hard to beat. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes, and the host understands English well and can suggest alternatives based on what you like. It’s not in the city center, though you can get there by motorbike or car, or walk the under-2 km route. Check out the Ausum canal roads in MHS. This has been one of my favorite places on my travels, and the best food I’ve had in Thailand so far. I’ll stay here again when I return.
