I liked having breakfast in the morning, even though it costs extra. That’s about the only positive for me. At 700 baht, this feels like a shabby upcountry hotel worth 250 baht. You’re paying for the location, though there are plenty of nearby hotels with good access to the border post. The bed rolled around, the pillows were hard and tall, and the air conditioning didn’t cool the room. The shower was warm but weak, and the whole place looked old and worn. I’m never staying here again.

There are no windows, just large openings in the walls facing the corridor, so light and noise get everywhere. Residents are constantly coming and going, and the noise in the middle of the night and early morning kept me awake. Their lack of care and manners is still something I can put up with, but the racket is unbearable. Management has known about this for a long time, and the situation is getting worse. The young receptionist was very helpful and friendly, but couldn’t keep customers from leaving. This place isn’t suited to foreign travelers or hotel standards. Take time to look around nearby for a quiet room where you can sleep properly.

You can get food or drinks without going out when you’re feeling lazy, since there’s a hostel, restaurant, and cafe all here. There are lots of menu choices, and the food and drinks are really good. The workers are kind and friendly, and some speak English. It’s right in the center, so you can walk to places. Maybe it depends on the person, but I had a great time and would definitely stay again if I visit.

Rooms with a fan or AC cost 400-600 THB and come with a hot shower, TV, and bar fridge. The owner can pick you up from or drop you off at Chiang Rai Airport. There’s a small kitchen out back for the restaurant, and they have beer, soft drinks, juice, and espresso. WiFi doesn’t reach very well upstairs. Outsiders pay THB 5 to use the toilet.

The staff work hard, including at the mann coffee shop and hotel reception. They helped make getting up the stairs less of a strain, since there’s no elevator.
