Nattapong grand hotel

The stay was agreeable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the old Thai hotel style, mostly Thai food with a small Western selection enough for an “American breakfast.” There’s also a bungalow resort attached, and parking your car here is no problem. This is the oldest hotel in town, well maintained and with an impressive entrance. It has a large swimming pool. Unfortunately, heavy rain started after we viewed the room. While I was unloading the car, a roadside power supply transformer blew. There was no electricity, and it seems they’re not quick to fix things here in NBL. I’ve heard similar stories from guests at other hotels at other times. Without power, there was no shower or water, no lights or TV, no way to charge a phone, use the refrigerator, or flush the toilet. Until the PEA gets their act together in this town, the problem may persist.

The rooms are nice and the air conditioners are cool, but the WiFi barely works. The pool showers were really dangerous, and so many people were wearing inappropriate clothing in the pool.

The staff were lovely and helpful, and it was good value. It’s a clean, pleasant country hotel, halfway between Udon Thani and the place we needed to go farther north, where there weren’t any hotels. Breakfast was okay, if you’re fine with food served cold that most people eat hot.

They’re still just battling along like they have for the last ten years. The breakfast is the same very basic Thai food it was back then. Someone should tell them that even Thai people like a bit of change now. Check the breakfast shop near the post station, it has more choices and is cheaper.
