Iyara Hotel Nongkhai

The staff are pleasant and helpful, and speak a little English. I’ve stayed at The Lyara Hotel in Nong Khai before and would come back. It’s quiet and good value, with a balcony and a spacious bedroom with a large bed, though the mattress is a bit too soft for me. Asawann Shopping Mall is a short walk away and the hotel overlooks it. Asawann Shopping Mall 2, with Big C, is across the road. Buses and mini vans to Udon Thani stop on the main road, and it’s a quick tuk tuk ride into the city. There aren’t many frills.

There’s parking out front, and the room is a decent size for a budget hotel. The furnishings are basic but work fine. The toilet and shower area is a little small, and the bed’s unusual underframe makes it somewhat awkward to climb into.

Good location, about a 5 minute ride from Nong Khai train station and the border. Shopping, restaurants, and 7/11 are nearby.

The hotel was dirty, old, and musty, and badly needs renovation. The photos look 10 years old. I booked 3 nights but left after 2 hours. A recent review saying it was new and well ventilated misled me.
