The setting is the main draw: the river runs beside a large grassy yard, and you're close to Walking Street without being right in the noise. You can still hear bars and motorbikes in the distance, and there seems to be a school nearby, so kids can be heard during the day. It's a lovely open space, especially if you're into flow arts. Being near town also meant I could walk around instead of renting a scooter or bicycle, and Grab or Lineman rides are cheap when needed. The huts are extremely basic. The bathrooms don't have bins, toilet paper, or towels; maybe towels are available for a deposit, but I hadn't asked. Wi-Fi doesn't reach every room across the large property. I was first told in person that my unit would cost 200 baht, but on arrival they asked for 250. A different person checked me in, and the woman I'd spoken with earlier hadn't written down that I was coming, saying she'd remember. It's old-school, but still incredibly cheap for this location, about the price of a meal and drink. This was the cheapest place I've stayed in Pai. I stayed elsewhere up the road for 350 baht, with more amenities and a private bathroom, but it was a bit of a walk. Maybe the November start of high tourist season explains the extra 50 baht here. This is camping-style, bare-bones accommodation, so don't expect fancy hotel service. You give up some comforts, but the price and location are hard to beat.

Mama and her family are wonderful. There's a huge open area for activities, and you get drinking water, hot water, and Wi-Fi free. A few showers have scalding hot water, though the pressure drops a bit, as usual. Pitching your own tent costs 150 baht in high season.

It's a basic campsite with showers and toilets, and there's no Wi-Fi. You can walk to the night food market. Thai visitors seem to like it, and at 120 baht to pitch a tent, it's about as peaceful as Pai gets.

The owners are usually caring and friendly, though with prices this low, don't count on full room service. Even so, you get a lot for the money: a direct river view and bamboo bungalows at a price I haven't seen matched elsewhere in Pai. The regular units cost 250 baht, while the larger ones, suitable for up to three people, were listed at 600 baht. A really unique place, with a great location and unbeatable value. Update, Dec 2025: Prices eventually rose a little with inflation. As far as I know, the bungalows now cost 300-500 baht.

The owner is really friendly, and the place feels relaxed and good all around. During the almost-week I stayed, music from nearby places came through only now and then. It wasn't loud and didn't go on past dark. Nearly every shower has hot water, so you can choose hot or cold.
