Home Inn Pai @ Garden

It's a short walk to Pai's Walking Street, and 7-Eleven and the markets are close by too. The location isn't bad, but the hotel is near the main road and was very noisy at night. The rooms and hotel itself were clean.

We had room 99, which was spacious and clean, though the AC took a while to cool it. There are lots of windows, including glass bricks above the bed with no curtains and some thin curtains elsewhere, so sleeping after sunrise was hard. The reception girls aren't always there, so for help you have to call the number posted there. Walking Street and the night market are a bit far, about 15-20 minutes on foot, with almost no sidewalks. Still, it was a good stay.

We stayed three nights in a deluxe room in the garden beside the reception building. It was far enough from the busy street to be quiet, but Walking Street was still a ten-minute walk away. The bed was fine for a budget hotel, the shower had a water heater, and housekeeping did an excellent job. When we arrived, all the bike rentals in town were booked, but a helpful woman at reception tried to find one for us.

For $25, I think the room could have been better, though Pai does cost more than other towns in Thailand. It was clean, the AC worked well, and the water got very hot with good pressure. The firm mattress was fine for me, and the rooms are perfectly serviceable for the price, especially since you won't spend much time inside in Pai. The TV was almost an antique, a CRT set. At first, the room smelled so strongly of air freshener or deodorizer that it gave me a headache, even after I left the windows open all day and hosed down the bathroom. Edit: after the sheets were changed, the smell was fine.
