The Countryside Resort Pai

A lovely place to stay in Pai. The bathroom water pressure can be weak, and sometimes the temperature isn’t quite right. That said, I’d expect this in many places around Thailand.

This little family-run resort has a wonderfully wild feel, set among rice fields with mountain views. It’s surprisingly quiet for somewhere so close to town, just a peaceful walk through the countryside back to Pai. The staff are friendly and attentive. There’s bottled water and pool towels, they can arrange day trips, and guests can help themselves to tea, coffee, and bread. The rooms are basic but fit the natural setting, so don’t expect hotel luxury. The windows stay open, which might not suit anyone who needs more privacy. At night it’s just the sounds of the wildlife, very serene. The rooftop seating is a nice touch, especially early in the morning when fog rolls over the mountains. Bring bug spray, and expect mud if it’s wet.

The staff at Countryside Resort were so kind and helpful. They did our laundry, folded everything beautifully, and it came back smelling amazing. We were there in the dry season, though I can imagine the fields look spectacular when the rice is growing. The setting between the fields is gorgeous, and the town center is a short walk away. They can also give you a lift into town, which was a lovely extra. We had such a nice stay and would highly recommend it! 😍

Pai in low season feels like heaven. Without the crowds, the locals seem to live such peaceful lives. It’s quiet almost everywhere, and the sound of motorcycles is about the only disturbance. Then tourists start arriving, and the calm evenings disappear. Maybe things become the opposite. I don’t know why Western visitors get so noisy around bedtime. It’s frustrating to live among people when you have to keep fighting for the basic peace you need to feel well. It seems like some people don’t know how to care for themselves through quiet or by following nature’s rhythm. Instead, they choose restlessness, noise, and what feels like madness, and call it pleasure. That harms the places and cultures they visit, as well as themselves. Maybe Western culture’s time is over, as the transformed Earth can no longer tolerate a self-indulgent way of life that doesn’t work with nature’s rhythm.
