Chana Phuket Hotel

The hard mattresses and pillows made it uncomfortable, and after showers the floor stayed wet because the showerhead wasn’t fixed properly. Cleaning was also a problem: they used old, dirty cloths that left a bad smell. I had to negotiate with the cleaning staff to change the bedding, even though the room hadn’t been cleaned the previous day, and there was sand on the bed. The facilities were outdated, poorly maintained, and barely worked. Staff were unfriendly, rarely smiled, and didn’t seem willing to help. They often played billiards in the lobby late at night, and the noise carried into the rooms. This definitely didn’t feel like a 3-star hotel.

There was some confusion between Chana Phuket Hotel and the next-door Star Hotel. I’d booked to stay at Star, but had to go to the nearby Chana Hotel building. Even so, it was a very good stay. The staff were nice, helpful and spoke English. When I extended our stay and switched to a room one size smaller, management let me keep the bigger Deluxe room without charging extra, which was really kind. The two drawbacks were the rooftop pool, which was in bad condition and seemed unused, and the wifi, which needs improvement 👍

The room and toilet smelled awful, and the receptionist was very rude and couldn’t accommodate our requests. The floor tiles were cracked, making noise when we walked, and everything in the toilet was rusty. I’ve had much better toilets in other hotels.

This was our second stay, and it’s good for the price. The pool is fantastic, the beach and shops are close, and there’s a cheap food market nearby. Reception staff are friendly. I took off a star because housekeeping could do a much better job. Still, if you ask, they’ll bring whatever they forgot to top up, so it wasn’t a major issue.
