Baan Sai Thong

The surroundings are hard to beat, and I loved the rooms and the awesome breakfast. The staff were really friendly too. Best hotel I've stayed at in Thailand in a long time.

The room is small but comfortable, with a comfortable bed and sofa. The towels were surprisingly good too, better than rooms like this usually provide. The bathrooms are basic but nice, despite what another reviewer wrote. There are no exposed wires, the shower feels safe and has nice warm water, and the toilet seats are fine. It really is on the beach and very close to it, though my window view was blocked and I couldn't see the beach from my screen door. The location is almost perfect, and a clear beach view would have made it totally perfect. I'm correcting what a previous customer wrote: there is WiFi, and it works really well. Cell phone reception isn't great, though you're on an island.

We liked having breakfast with that blue-green ocean view. Our room was clean, and the staff were courteous and professional. It’s a small place on Tawaen Beach with some character, though it isn’t a luxury hotel.

We left after the first night of a two-night booking. The room was old and nothing like the photos, and the bathroom was awful: the toilet seat was too small for the toilet, with an electric shower wire left exposed. There was no Wi-Fi, and the place needs a full renovation. Reception didn’t even ask why we were checking out early. At best, it’s a two-star guesthouse.
