Halo Sea Kohlarn

The bed was soft and I slept well. The air conditioning gets very cold, the water pressure is strong, and the fridge, around 5 cubic feet, kept ice nicely. If privacy matters, I’d suggest room 201 on the second floor. It feels apart from the other rooms, while people often eat outside the ground-floor rooms. There is one drawback at night: as the first room on that upper floor, it gets a lot of wind, and now and then I heard a popping noise above the bed, a bit like someone tapping the glass. Bring your own shampoo and soap, since the bottles provided are tiny and not enough even for an overnight stay.

Breakfast was delicious and the room was clean. The towels had a musty smell, though.

We booked through Agoda and paid a little extra for privacy, but the villa we got was disappointing. The pictures showed a balcony, while ours didn’t have one like the other rooms. We stayed two days, and the refrigerator was very old, with a tiny compartment that couldn’t even take ice. We asked for a thermos, but none were available because, we were told, other rooms had borrowed them. Staff brought a large one, but we decided not to use it. Only one outlet near the fridge worked, so we had to switch between plugging in the fridge and the hairdryer. The TV wouldn’t connect to the internet, and we could only get regular channels, with the signal cutting out sometimes. The sink faucet leaked and had to be turned off carefully, and there was a strange rusty smell. The water heater seemed to be the only new item. Maybe it depends on the room, but ours didn’t impress us. The staff were polite but couldn’t fix these issues. The food was free, but staff served it between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM rather than having it self-serve. Before we went in, staff told us strong-smelling food such as durian or seafood wasn’t allowed in the room. We don’t eat strong-smelling seafood at the beach, and I wish this had been mentioned in the details before we arrived, since we only learned about it just before check-in. The Agoda booking also had an extra motorbike rental charge of 300 baht per day.

In studio room 106, the farthest room on the ground floor, we spent 3 days and 2 nights and loved it. The staff, both men and women, were very polite. We’d forgotten a few things and asked to borrow some, and they kindly lent them to us. Breakfast was delicious, and the fridge and air conditioning both worked well. We got two bottles of water and some tissues left by previous guests in the room, plus one small bottle each of shampoo and body wash. On the second night, we were given more tissues, shampoo, body wash, and two extra bottles of water. The blankets and pillowcases weren’t especially fresh-smelling, but they weren’t bad either. There was a lot of kitchen prep noise in the morning since the kitchen is just outside the room. The shower water didn’t seem very clean, and our hair felt sticky after washing it. There was a bath mat in the bathroom, but we wished there had been one by the entrance too. No clothes rack for drying things, and the TV was unusable, just a switch for shopping channels and decoration.
