Aloha Residence

I enjoyed my week here and would recommend it. The hotel had some trouble with its credit card machine, and there’s a 5% charge. That might have bothered me a little, but Luisa, Sunshine, Alice and the team are so charming and likeable that it wasn’t a problem.

The rooftop jacuzzi was a nice touch. The rooms were clean and just right, and the location in Kata beach couldn’t have been better, close to the sea and great places to eat. Thanks, Aloha Residence, for a wonderful stay. A very nice hotel that I’d highly recommend!

The employees were polite, friendly, professional and spoke good English. They genuinely tried to help and did their best despite the property’s limitations. Even so, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. For around €80 a night, the value is extremely poor, and places along the same street offer equal or better rooms for less, with better upkeep and a more welcoming feel. The room had a constant, unbearable damp smell that made it uncomfortable. It seems to point to long-running moisture and ventilation problems. The interior looked as if it hadn’t been touched in decades, like stepping back into the 1990s. Walls were cracked and damaged, air-conditioning units were fixed to visibly deteriorated surfaces, and the bathroom was old and poorly maintained. There were signs everywhere, in the room, on the door and around the building, with rules, warnings and potential penalties. Some notes told guests not to leave the air-conditioning on. Detailed price lists threatened charges for stains on blankets, towels and other items. That creates an anxious atmosphere when the furnishings already look so worn. The towels were old and heavily used, yet guests could be charged for damaging them. That feels unreasonable and unfair. The bathroom had an old electric boiler inside the shower, grout that looked as if it had never been properly cleaned or renewed, and stained shower curtains long overdue for replacement. They provided small shampoo capsules but also had old wall-mounted dispensers, which seemed careless and inconsistent. The advertised balcony was tiny, with no room for a chair or even to stand comfortably. The air-conditioning unit was on the balcony, making the room noticeably noisy when it was running. The building and elevator were old, and the lift often took several tries to respond. Beach towels weren’t free either, which is unusual compared with most hotels nearby. The place seemed to have had no meaningful renovation or maintenance in well over 20 years. It would be more accurate to describe this as basic apartments than a proper hotel. The property barely meets a two-star standard. It feels more like an apartment for backpackers, with more attention to collecting payments than guest comfort. There was also a serious booking problem. My father accidentally booked three rooms instead of one, and the full amount was charged straight away. No booking confirmation was sent. When we contacted the hotel to explain the mistake, they wouldn’t discuss a solution. Two rooms sat unused for several days, but they still weren’t willing to offer flexibility or a partial refund.

Alice made my stay feel personal. She was warm, genuine and attentive, checked that everything was going smoothly, and helped with check-in and local tips. She clearly cared about the guests and wanted them to enjoy their time. Her positive attitude and attention to detail made a big difference and turned a nice stay into a memorable one. Aloha Residence felt peaceful, welcoming and relaxing from the moment I arrived. The rooms were spotless and well equipped, and the decor and amenities showed care. The service was excellent throughout. It was one of my most enjoyable travel experiences in a long time. If comfort, cleanliness and great hospitality matter to you, this place should be high on your list. I’ll absolutely return on my next trip, and hope Alice is still there.
