Grand Sunset Hotel Phuket

The room was basic, but clean and had everything we needed. Staff were lovely and very helpful, and the location worked well: the beach is just across the road. They provide beach towels, with none of the towel scam mentioned in some reviews I’d read. There’s also a rooftop pool with a little ocean view.

We stayed three nights and felt it was worth the price. The beds are VERY wide, breakfast was nice with a few choices, and the air conditioning worked well. Our balcony had a lovely view, and the rooftop pool was there too, though the surface is VERY slippery, so be careful. Staff were kind, reliable, and accommodating, even helping us switch rooms when we needed to add a day. The location is near a pool, little shops, and a massage parlour. Prices seemed very cheap to us as Canadians. We’d suggest arranging your own ride because the hotel’s is expensive.

The location was good, but the rooms were dirty and the service felt questionable. There were lots of insects in our room. On the first night, a cockroach appeared; after we asked several times, staff sprayed it with a lot of insect spray and left it half dead in the room. At checkout, we were charged for a towel that supposedly had black stains. How would that happen while showering?

The location was perfect, with the beach, shops, and good places to eat nearby, and the price and service were really good. Our room was great, and cleaning was quick. The one letdown was breakfast: it was Thai-style, with limited choices if you’re European. Still, we had a great experience.
