Hotel Ikon Phuket

The smart TV was a plus, and the rest of the room was generally fine, but the bathroom was hard to ignore. There was a lot of mould in the shower, black and orange buildup on the doors, and heavy hard-water stains. It looked like the shower had never been cleaned properly, to the point that I avoided looking around while using it. I didn't enjoy my stay at Hotel Ikon Karon Beach, and it felt below what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. The rooms in the online photos looked fresh and ultra-modern, but what we found was run down and badly maintained. There were chips on the walls and furniture, missing paint, and spots where the plastering hadn't been finished. It was all obvious when we arrived. The lobby also looked cheap and had no wow factor. Reception being on the first floor felt odd, and the hotel is spread across three buildings. If you're in Block B or C, getting in and out means a long, tedious walk. Breakfast was horrible. We paid for seven days but only ate properly on about one. The eggs were consistently undercooked. My partner asked for a soft-boiled egg, but staff brought it with the shell on. When he asked for the shell to be taken off, the undercooked yolk spilled out, and the staff member put the white and runny yolk in a bowl. I've never seen a soft-boiled egg look like soup. The food was cold, too. It was left uncovered despite the warmers, so it cooled quickly. The cupcakes and muffins tasted unpleasant, the cereal, even the “Cornflakes,” tasted stale, the chocolate “spread” was more like cheap ice-cream syrup, and the mini croissants seemed store-bought, soggy, and far from fresh. I wouldn't return or recommend the hotel.

We stayed in a superior room with breakfast included. The room was roomy and very clean, and breakfast had a really good selection. Karon beach is close enough to walk to, and there are shuttle drop-offs every hour. Lovely hotel, highly recommended.

The pool at sunset was such a relaxing spot, and the drinks were tasty. I especially liked the ocean one with rum, while the sunset drink with tequila was stronger and tasty too. The cafe staff were great, and I loved the range of food options. Henry made sure my husband and I were looked after, and the staff were all super friendly. The hotel felt modern and clean, with a beautiful ocean and jungle view. Our room was spacious, with big, comfy beds. I loved the balcony, and the rainfall shower was a lovely touch, with great hot water and pressure.

The hotel was clean and the staff very friendly. We had a Superior room, and it was quiet, though that was because we visited in low season. Pool towels were provided, and Reception supplied beach towels. There's a little shuttle bus to and from the beach, but we didn't take it since the walk was easy, about 15 minutes.
