Thara Patong Beach Resort & Spa

We stayed here before, in 2015, and the hotel was in better condition then. Now it’s 2019, and it has aged without renovation. The shower is old and not properly clean, with lots of limescale. We didn’t get enough coffee, shampoo, or conditioner, only shower gel. On the third day we got another staff member. The internet keeps drilling, and with more than three devices there’s no internet. I have to keep logging in with codes, which is irritating. Sad to see the hotel getting older and older.

The rooms were clean, the staff mostly friendly, and the location in Patong, Phuket was good. But for the price, the service fell short. We were “upgraded” to a room beside noisy extractors in the building next door. The WiFi was slow. That wouldn’t usually bother me, but we’d had better internet in some of Thailand’s most remote places. They advertise the pools, but don’t mention they’re closed for cleaning from 19:00 to 8:00. Those hours are awkward if you want an evening or sunset dip, or an early morning swim. The power tripped several times overnight, resetting the room automation and switching on some lights while we were asleep. It also reset the aircon temperature. It was okay, but overpriced.

There was construction going on next door, and it was loud all the time except at night. The jackhammers and other equipment made the rooms shake. The WiFi was very poor, even in the lobby. The property is okay, though, and very well located, within walking distance of most things you might want. Patong beach is literally across the street from the restaurant.

The pool was good, and the hotel provides the basic amenities. Breakfast was just okay, with lots of Chinese breakfast dishes and flies everywhere. There was also a damp, musty smell in the room. Seems like a budget hotel, probably run by Chinese owners.
